“We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that Dizzee Rascal will be making a debut in Hastings on the iconic and newly-refurbished Hastings Pier at the end of the summer. As if that wasn’t enough, he’ll be joined by a very special support act to be confirmed very soon,” the spokesman said.

“Tickets will go fast for this one, set your alarms!”

The famous grime artist, whose real name is Dylan Kwabena Mills, is best known for songs including Bonkers, Fix Up Look Sharp and Bassline Junkie.

Dizzee Rascal released a collaborative track with Calvin Harris called Hype on Friday (June 24) – his first single since 2014.

With four number one singles, four top 10 albums, a Mercury Prize and a performance at the Olympic opening ceremony in 2012, Dizzee Rascal has become a huge name in both the UK garage scene and the international pop charts.

He is one of the biggest artists to perform on the pier since it reopened in April and is helping to bring back the musical scene of its heyday when Jimi Hendrix, The Who and The Rolling Stones played there in the 1960s.

The other headline acts at The Big Weekender, which was extended specially for Dizzee, are Happy Mondays on the Saturday and The Levellers on the Sunday.

Other confirmed acts include The Orb, Turin Brakes, Formation and Ferocious Dog, with more to be announced.

Ska band Madness headlined the gala opening of the pier in May with the pier and seafront packed with excited fans.

Tickets will be available here.
