Doctor appears in Hastings magistrates court charged with sexual assault of teenage girl

Dr Pai Jayaram, 45, a consultant paediatrician, was charged last month with three offences of sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl.

Pai, of The Spinney, Battle, spoke to confirm his name and address during the short hearing and was granted conditional bail.

The charges were authorised in January 2015 by the Crown Prosecution Services.

This followed an investigation by East Sussex child protection detectives.

They allege the assaults took place on 28 February 2013.

Pai, who is employed by the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, is next due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on March 12.
