Dog dawdle around Sedlescombe charity grounds

The walk around Pestalozzi Village brought together dog walkers and nature lovers and gave residents an exclusive opportunity to see the charity’s beautiful estate on Saturday, May 28.

Not only did attendees experience a nature ramble in the glorious sunshine, they also enjoyed some well-deserved cake and tea afterwards, followed by a raffle with lots of doggie-related prizes.

Sedlescombe resident and dog owner Juanita Gouws said: “The event was great fun and it was such a beautiful day.

“It was lovely to meet people from Sedlescombe and the surrounding areas that I hadn’t met before, and also spread the word about Pestalozzi and what they do.”

Pestalozzi has owned the 165-acre Sedlescombe estate for almost 60 years and have always welcomed the dog walkers that use the public footpaths running through it.

While the Dog Dawdle did follow part of the public footpath, it also covered private areas of the estate the public are not usually able to access.

On the day the weather was glorious and walkers welcomed the shelter of a shady oak tree half way round.

This short rest also offered everyone a chance to admire the stunning views over the Brede Valley and enjoy a spot of bird watching.

Afterwards, the dawdlers relaxed by eating cake and drinking tea with new friends, both human and canine.

Each dog received a free treat bag generously donated by healthy pet food supplier Husse Pet Food.

There was also a raffle with lots of dog-friendly prizes donated by Husse, The Chequers Inn, Pawfect Pooch, The Dogs Cake Bakery, Abbey Pet Supplies and Mount Road Pet and Aquatic Store.

“The event was really popular and we have had lots of requests to host another walk soon,” Pestalozzi’s fundraising officer James Bacon said.

He added: “This was a bit of a new venture for us and we are very grateful for the support that we received for it.”
