Dog owners warned about sheep worrying risks

KEEP your dog under control or it could be shot. This stark warning has come as the lambing season gets underway in West Sussex.

Two rare breed sheep and a lamb have been killed in a frenzied attack by a dog near Hurstpierpoint already this year and dogs have been chasing sheep in commercial flocks between Shipley and Ashington.

Zsa Roggendorff, who lives at a farm in Hooklands Lane, Shipley, has pleaded for owners to keep their dogs under control.

She has 50 pregnant breeding ewes in her Lleyn flock that are about to lamb and is anxious to avoid dog attacks of previous years.

"Simply to have dogs chasing pregnant ewes is enough to make them abort. Several weeks ago a group of my sheep had wool off their backs and I knew they must have been chased by a pet dog rather than a hunting dog," she said.
