Dog rescue charity fun day

A dog charity which is based in Seaford will hold a Family Fun Day and Fun Dog Show on Saturday May 25 to raise money.

Waifs and Strays Dog Rescue will stage the event at the Downs Leisure Centre in Sutton Road from 10am to 4pm.

The difficult economic climate means the charity’s services are more in demand than ever, as people struggle to afford to care for their pets.

Founder of Waifs and Strays Dog Rescue, formerly known as Seaford Dog Rescue, Sue Philips said: “Sadly the most recent big issue is this ‘bedroom tax’ forcing people to move to properties where dogs are not allowed.”

The fundraising event for waif and stray dogs, will include lots of fun activities for all the familiy, including children’s rides, pony rides and have a go agility, as well as have a go flyball and an animal extravaganza where visitors can meet lizards and snakes.

There will also be lots of stalls, a beer tent and cafe.

Displays will be staged throughout the day, including flyball, agility, Alpha Guard K9 carrying out a security dog display and a fashion show by ‘Puppichic’ showcasing the latest fashion trends for dogs.

Waifs and Strays Dog Rescue helps animals found in the local area, such as in Seaford.

It was formed from a merger of SeafordDog Rescue and a dog charity in Eastbourne.

Sue added: “Things are going well. We have now formed a board of trustees.

“We have a wonderful team of dedicated and keen volunteers but we are looking for more, particularly foster families.”

Categories in the fun dog show will include: handsomest dog (sponsored by Wild rose tattooz), prettiest bitch (sponsored by Not Just Poodle, Best rescue (sponsored by Pet Set Go), best veteran (sponsored by Primary protection service), best puppy (sponsored by Pawsome pets), best pedigree (sponsored by Peaceabull Bulldogs), best Heinz (sponsored by Herbal Life), waggiest tail (sponsored by Tillymint dog designs), dog the judge would most like to take home (sponsored by Badgers ink ltd) and best in show (sponsored by Pad2Pad).
