Dog waste concerns after overflowing bin pictured in Selsey

Despite being reassured by the council in November that dog patrolling would be increased to tackle fouling, residents are ‘responsible’ dog owners cannot dispose of their pet’s waste properly because the bins ‘are not emptied enough’.

Chichester District Council responded to the comments stating that as soon as the council was notified of the issue ‘it was arranged for the bin to be emptied straight away’.

A spokesperson added that the bin in Park Lane was not full, but the chute was ‘blocked by someone attempting to put rubbish in it and so it gave the impression that it was full’.

Nevertheless, residents have spoken out over the long-standing issue.

Lisa Carron said: “Bins get full because us responsible dog owners pick up after our dogs, but they not emptied enough.”

Linda Williams agreed: “There needs to be more of the larger litter bins around the town that will take general litter or dog poo bags.

Jessica O’riordan said: “I find it even worse that people cant clean up after their dog on a road that has a children primary school on it knowing full well children will be walking to school.

“Last thing we need is a worry about our children treading it though the schools.”
