Dolphin found on Worthing Beach

Members of the public reported seeing a dead dolphin on the beach between West Parade and Marine Parade.

Retired police officer Keith Knight, 53, saw the dolphin about 8.30am from his address in Balcombe Court.

“It was dead. I saw a couple of people walking their dogs, look at it and walk on,” Keith said.

The dolphin was removed by council workers about 10.30am, he added.

Andy Edwards, head of environment for Adur and Worthing councils said “This incident was reported to our Beach Office this morning when they opened at 9.00am.

“The Dolphin was removed by Cleansing by mid-morning. Apparently it had been dead for some while. Cause of death unknown. “We have reported it to UK Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme in case they want to investigate cause and for their information.”
