The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, was concerned her handbag and contents had been stolen by a caller who came to her door last month.

Officers attended but found her handbag untouched elsewhere in the property.

She was so pleased she made a donation to the Sussex Police Charitable Trust as a thank you to the officers.

“I was so relieved,” she said.

“The person that took the call and the officers who visited me were not judgmental at all, and were a real credit to Sussex Police.

“I just wanted to show my appreciation, so on finding out about the Trust I decided to send a small donation.”

The Trust offers support to officers, staff, special constables, pensioners and dependant family members in their hour of need.

It can help them deal with illness and injury, financial problems, relationship and child care issues, housing, welfare needs and so on.

Rother district police commander Chief Inspector Warren Franklin said: “We have contacted the lady to thank her personally for the donation.

“I was pleased to learn that officers had such a positive impact on this person, and she has made a very kind and thoughtful gesture.”
