Residents are being called to ditch their apathy and cast their yes/no ballot in the Littlehampton neighbourhood plan vote – the most significant of its kind in the town for years.

The polls, which will open on Wednesday morning, will see locals answering either yes or no to this question: “‘Do you want Arun District Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Littlehampton to help it decided planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”

Terry Ellis, of the Littlehampton Community Charter Group – one of the organisation’s responsible for drafting the plan alongside Littlehampton Town Council and the town’s civic society – is urging residents to vote.

“The problem that we have got in Littlehampton is that the town council does a good job in looking after the people but then what happens when it needs the backing of the people is it gets very little support,” he said. “This neighbourhood plan is so important because it’s the people’s plan – it’s for Littlehampton. People need to get involved to save our town which is in danger of losing its unique seaside feeling. This plan can help to protect our greatest assets from developers who want to build on green spaces.”

He said he was pleased by a well-attended information day on the plan in Manor House, Church Street, on Tuesday.
