Don't score a penalty during the World Cup

Local officers have been working closely with licensees to remind staff that they could face an 80 Fixed Penalty Notice if they serve alcohol to drunks or underage customers. It is also an offence to serve anyone purchasing alcohol on behalf of someone else who is drunk.

Anyone who is drunk and behaving in an anti-social manner could receive an on the spot fine of 80, or be dealt with at court under the Football Banning Order legislation.

Inspector Bob Brown, Wealden District, said: "'Wealden District hopes everyone enjoys the world cup, and if watching the matches in licensed premises, will consume alcohol sensibly and ensure that their behaviour does not have an adverse affect on others. There will be increased patrols during the tournament, especially on days when England play. Any person who is found to be drunk, abusive or acting in an anti social manner can expect to be dealt with firmly'.

Throughout the World Cup, there will be extra patrols during high profile matches to respond to any public disorder incidents.

Chief Superintendent Nick Wilkinson, East Sussex Divisional Commander, added: "The majority of people are law-abiding and peaceful, and we want everyone to enjoy the tournament. It is unfortunate that a small minority will probably not heed my advice, my message is clear - they will be targeted. We are asking that supporters are sensible and know their limits where alcohol is concerned. Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated."
