Double celebration for St Richard's Peace Poster winner

TALENTED ST Richards Catholic college student, Klaris Chan, is enjoying a double celebration after she won both the St Richard's College round of the Lions International Peace Poster competition, and the South East England final, after competing against posters from students throughout the area.

The winning posters from St Richard's Catholic College, St Mary's School, and Glyne Gap School had been sent on to the next level of competition to be judged against other winners from all over the South-East of England.

Bexhill-on-Sea Lions Club make donations to the local schools for their support in the competition, enabling the school to purchase both prizes for the winners and art equipment for the school.

Presenting Klaris with a special certificate and gift token at a special assembly held at St Richards college, Lion President David Burstow said:

"Every year Lions clubs around the world sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups, to encourage young people worldwide to express their visions of peace artistically. There are over 350,000 entries each year leading to 24 International finalists and a grand prize winner who receives a trip to a special award ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations in New York."

He added: "The standard of entries this year was so high that the St Richard's College winner, Klaris Chan, went on to win first place in the South East of England regional final, so I'm proud to attend this assembly at St Richard's to present Klaris with a special certificate and gift token. Looking at the National and International finalists this year, I'm delighted to report that the poster by Klaris compares very favourably. Finally, I'd also like to thank all the schools, teachers and students who took part."

Plans for the next competition are already in hand, and Bexhill Lions would like to hear from any schools or youth groups who are interested in taking part.
