DRAINAGE WORK ON REC

MALLING recreation ground is to receive £60,000 of drainage improvements to the football pitch as soon as the Environment Agency gives the go-ahead for the work to start.

Lewes District Council will provide the funding.

Cllr Liz Lee, member for the community, said: 'The project has been delayed by flood protection works which resulted in part of the site being used as a work area and storage compound.

'Also, because the pitch is on a former landfill site, the Agency needs to finish investigation works before giving the go-ahead.

'We expect the investigations to be completed by the end of January.'

The council is also applying for Lottery funds to offset the cost of 80,000 for levelling works at Malling and there is the possibility of help from the Football Foundation.
