Organiser Shining Lights reckons around 4,000 people, including many families, came to watch the fireworks and have some fun on Saturday night (November 5).

Around £1,500 was donated to help pay for next year’s event and the Christmas lights, which the volunteers also organise.

Director Mick Matthews thanked everyone who helped make the ‘incredible’ night happen.

“It’s incredible, everything and everyone was perfect,” he said.

“It was cold but the food stalls did a great job keeping people warm.

“I had a dream to do it and it was a dream come true.

“The ground coming down Galley Hill was packed with people.”

The magnificent firework display was done to music and Mick said it was great seeing the children sing along.

The Croydon Steel Drum Band entertained the crowds along with the various stalls, fairground rides, face painters, games and refreshments.

Mick said his highlight was one of the women working on the stalls said she had never seen so many happy kids having worked at a lot of different events.

“The atmosphere was so good and so friendly,” he said.

“I think it was so popular to the people of Bexhill as they didn’t have to pay, just a small donation, which they were okay with.

“It was something for the community and they thanked us for it. You can’t ask for anything else and it blew me away how generous they were. Plus it brought lots of people to businesses on the seafront which is great.”

Shining Lights plans to make it an annual event due to the popularity shown on Saturday night.

Organisers thanked the authorities for letting them go ahead, and everyone who helped keep people safe on the night.
