Driest month in past nine years

March was the driest start to spring in Bognor Regis for nine years.

Just 28.2mm of rain fell during last month. This was little more than a third of the 60.4mm seasonal average and just above the total for March 2000. The wettest day of the month was the 5th with 10.1mm.

The lack of rain led to more sunshine than usual. The 174.8 hours comfortably beat the 131 hours seasonal average. The sun shone on 30 of the 31 days.

Sunniest of them was the 19th with 10.3 hours. This abundance of clear skies saw warmer than normal temperatures. The highest was 15.4C/59.7F on the 22nd to push the mean maximum temperature to 11.7C against the 9.2C seasonal norm.

The coldest time was the 5th at -4.2C but this failed to stop the mean minimum temperature climbing to 4.5C compared to the expected 4.0C.
