Drink-drive man caught in Bognor

A Polish man was caught at more than twice over the drink-drive limit after leaving a party because he was told he could not stay the night.

Zbigniew Kalkowski went to a barbecue in Bognor Regis on September 7, but left at 1.40pm when he was told he could not stay.

He drove his car two-and-a-half miles before being stopped by police who spotted his car jolting down Gossamer Lane.

The 41-year-old of Beaconsfield Avenue, Portsmouth, gave a breathaliser reading of 74 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of blood; the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

He told police he intended to park his car and sleep until he was sober enough to drive himself home.

He pleaded guilty at Chichester Magistrates Court to the offence of driving with excess alcohol, and to having no insurance.

For driving with excess alcohol he was disqualified from driving for 20 months, and has to pay a fine of 100 pounds.
