Drinkers urged to steer clear of deadly mix in Littlehampton

DRINK-DRIVING offences in Littlehampton fell by three-quarters over the festive period last year, following a hard-hitting poster campaign across the town.

And now organisers hope motorists will again heed the message, after this week launching a renewed drive to persuade people not to mix drinking and driving.

Mike Cullern, chairman of the Littlehampton Neighbourhood Watch Association, said: “Drink-driving starts with an excuse. What will yours be? “Over 110 people were arrested in Sussex for drink-driving during the summer months – how many will be arrested during the next three months?

“Drink-driving could cost you your licence, job, family and your freedom.

“More importantly, it could cost you or someone else their life.”

The campaign runs until February 2, and Mike hopes it will build on the success of last year, when just two people were convicted for drink-driving in the area, compared with eight the previous year.

The Safer Arun Partnership, Littlehampton Town Council and Ford Prison are all backing the Neighbourhood Watch Association’s efforts, including a new poster – a similar one last year was widely displayed by traders. Any businesses which would like to help by displaying a poster should contact Mike, telephone 07747 542116.
