Drive it Day

THIRTY one beautifully preened and polished, classic and vintage cars, belonging to members of the Bexhill Classic Car Association's (BCCA), gathered at the Clock Tower, West Parade on Sunday for the 'National Drive It Day'.

Organised in support of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Club's (FBHVC) St George's day, BCCA's range of stunning cars took a leisurely jaunt through the Sussex countryside, attracting many admiring glances along the way.

As in previous years the BCCA took the opportunity to raise the profile of the Irvine Unit at Bexhill hospital, passing a bucket around for donations to the many who admired the stunning cars at various breaks throughout the journey, with one well-wisher saying: "They don't make them like that anymore!"

The amount collected will be added to the total amount the BCCA have raised throughout the year and will be presented to Matron, Karen Turley at the end of the year to purchase item's required by the unit.

Administrator's of BCCA Keith Robinson and Paul Anderson expressed their thanks to all the car owners for attending the event, for all the support they received along the way, and to all those who gave the convoy a great send off to their destination at Crowhurst Park, Battle, making this year's 'Drive It Day' such a success.

The BCCA are also proud to be associated with Bexhill Museum, which is due to re-open it's doors following extensive refurbishment, in June.

Keith said: "The BCCA were approached by John Betts, who is Head of Fund-raising at Bexhill Museum. He asked us if there was any way that we could assist in helping to raise awareness of the new Museum and encourage the people of Bexhill to pay a visit. Both Paul and I were were in full agreement that the BCCA would be very willing and proud to help such an important local project, bearing in mind Bexhill's historic links to the motor car."
