Driver caught speeding home in time for curfew

A MOTORIST was caught speeding after trying to rush home to avoid breaching a curfew order.

Gareth Wilkinson, 31, of The Ridge, Hastings, got pulled over by police in De La Warr Road in Bexhill on September 30 just before 9pm.

At a court hearing on Monday, Peter Bolwell, prosecuting, said Wilkinson was travelling at 41mph in a 30mph road.

He said: “The defendant told police he had no licence nor insurance.”

Wilkinson pleaded guilty to driving a car otherwise in accordance with a licence, having no insurance

and speeding when he appeared in front of Hastings magistrates on Monday.

Aiden Harvey, defending, said: “His partner had gone out leaving him at a friend’s house. She was late back and he had to be back home by 9pm as part of his curfew.

“He was given a 12-month suspended sentence and curfew four months ago at the crown court for producing cannabis.

“The defendant was stopped by police.

“He was trying to comply with his court order.”

Magistrates fined Wilkinson £300 for having no insurance, added eight penalty points on his licence and ordered £30 court costs.
