Driver flees from stolen car in St Leonards

A man driving a stolen car fled from police on Wednesday (May 4) as officers tried to stop him.

Police said the red vehicle had been stolen in Kent and was spotted in St Leonards.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “At around 12.40pm on Wednesday police were made aware a red Ford Ka hatchback, reported stolen from Paddock Wood, Kent, had been seen travelling south on the A21 between Hurst Green and Hastings.

“A police patrol intercepted the vehicle as it approached Hastings near the junction of the A21 Ebdens Hill with the A28 Westfield Lane.

“The vehicle stopped but then the driver ran off into the garden of a nearby private property and on into woodland.

“Despite being pursued and a subsequent search the man got away. Enquiries are continuing to trace him.”

Police said the man was in his 20s, 6ft 1ins tall, slim, with tanned skin, short dark hair and was wearing a hoody and light-coloured checked shorts.
