Duke honours chamber's chairman with trophy

Chamber of commerce president and chairman Nick Stuart Nicolson has made it a hat trick of titles with the Bognor Regis group.

He has become the latest holder of its Britten Trophy courtesy of the Duke of Richmond.

The trophy went to Mr Stuart Nicolson in recognition of his notable service to Bognor.

The duke endorsed the citation which led the chamber's executive committee to back Mr Stuart Nicolson.

This said he had showed a constant, long-standing dedication to the chamber of commerce and willingness to ensure chamber business is conducted in a professional manner, the chamber's promotion in Bognor and his enthusiasm for the town.

The Britten Trophy has been awarded annually since 1952 to the individual which the chamber considers has done the most for the town in the previous year. Past winners include Billy Butlin, Charlie Purdey, Dr Michael Ayres and Sqdn Ldr Kenneth Charlwood.

Mr Stuart Nicolson is in his second spell as the chamber's chairman, having become president in between the two periods.

His commitment to Bognor also extends to being a member of a host of other organisations. These include the town's regeneration board, marketing board, marketing group, town plan group, visitor strategy action group, the West Sussex coastal partnership strategic board and the Local Strategic Partnership.

He is a past president of the Past Rotarians Club of Chichester, having been a Rotary president in London and a long-standing member of the Queen's English Society.

Mr Stuart Nicolson is also well known in his professional capacity as a funeral director in Bognor town centre having worked in the industry for many years in London.
