Dumped!

WHO could be so heartless? These two four-month-old kittens were found abandoned in a pet box at Long Furlong Park, near Clapham, on Saturday, and were lucky not to have been eaten by foxes.

The kittens, named provisionally as Lost and Found, are now in the care of Worthing and District Animal Rescue Service, which is seeking new owners for them.

Billy Elliott, WADARS senior rescue officer, told the Herald on Tuesday that it was fortunate they were found by a responsible person, who took them to the Grove Lodge veterinary hospital in Worthing.

"They had obviously been looked after because their neck fur showed they had been wearing collars," he continued.

"For the past three or four years, we have observed an increasing number of pets being dumped by their owners in the weeks leading up to Christmas. In fact, the number is now higher than after Christmas.

"If people do decide they don't want their pets any more, could they please let WADARS know three or four weeks in advance so that we have enough time to make proper arrangements for them," he said.

Mr Elliott added that Lost and Found would be among 10 other cats at the group's annual Christmas fair at 3 Moat Way, Goring, from 10am to 2pm on Saturday.

WADARS president Tim Loughton, MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, will be there as Santa Claus, giving gifts to children.

Responsible prospective owners should contact Wadars on 01903 217788.
