Dumped builder's waste vanished from beauty spot

The report and photos of the rubbish - which included a kitchen worktop surface and double bed - went online on December 29.

Amanda Aviss, who contributed the pictures, said the problem was ‘a blight on this beauty spot’.

This week, National Trust head warden Charlie Cain said he had headed over there to check the waste for clues that would help him identify the culprits.

However, he arrived to find that somebody - presumably the people responsible - had been back to deal with it.

“When I went to look at the rubbish, it had been fairly meticulously cleared up,” he said.

“Maybe a person who recognised the rubbish knew he had to clear it out, he’d seen your photographs and thought: ‘This is too obvious, I’ve got to get rid of it.’”

Charlie had previously said that fly-tipped waste which is traced usually turns out to have come from a householder who paid a company to take it away, not knowing that they would dump it illegally.

On this occasion, two people contacted him with reports of suspicious activity involving vehicles which could have been used to dump the waste.
