The Chief Executive of Raystede has condemned the dumping of unwanted pets at the Ringmer-based animal welfare centre.
Nigel Mason said: “On Tuesday night at 10.30pm the on-site security saw a car pull up at the gates to Raystede and a leave a large cardboard box behind.
“The box, held together with flimsy tape, contained two very frightened black and white adult cats. They would soon have escaped and been vulnerable to injury so near to a busy road had the on-site security not seen the incident on CCTV monitors.”
He continued: “This is a hugely irresponsible way of disposing of unwanted animals. Raystede is already under immense pressure to take in animals, with 80 cats on our waiting list alone.”
