Chauffeur David Matthew claimed he lost customers after his phone was cut off several times, as he racked up a series of expensive bills.

He later discovered the charges were due to sending ‘long’ text messages – something he said Virgin had authorised him to do.

The 44-year-old, of Tavey Road, Durrington, who owns Absolute Anywhere, said: “It was very stressful trying to earn money and then find out my phone was cut off and no-one was going to get through to me.

“They have lost a customer and I wouldn’t touch them with a bargepole.”

Mr Matthew took Virgin to the small claims court and successfully argued his case.
