Durrington Tesco noise complaints

NOISE levels at the new Tesco store in Durrington are being investigated after complaints from neighbouring residents.

Ten people living in Varey Road, which backs onto the store, have complained to police and environmental health officers about the noise made by Tesco employees using the staff entrance and exit.

One resident said: "From the day the new store opened, we've been plagued by the noise coming from the staff exit and entrance which is close to our home.

"If it isn't employees chatting loudly to each other as they start or finish work, then it's them talking on their mobile phones."

Too much to bear

He said the noise became "too much to bear" when his family were woken up at 1.25am one night last week after the door continued to be slammed shut.

The police were called by some of Varey Road's residents but on arrival, officers informed the residents noise issues would have to be taken up with Worthing Council's environmental health department.

Worthing Council confirmed environmental health officers had been notified and are investigating the noise levels coming from the Tesco site.

A Tesco spokesman said: "The door is the main staff entrance and exit, which was included in the plans for the building.

"We will will remind staff to be mindful of their noise levels when coming into and leaving the building because of the vicinity of residential properties nearby."
