Dyamond Dance open day

THE DYAMOND Dance Centre officially opened it's doors to their new premises on Wickham Avenue on Saturday and cutting the ribbon was past town Mayor Deirdre Williams.

Before being invited to tour the premises and see for themselves what the centre has to offer, well-wishers, who had gathered outside to celebrate the launch, were treated to a performance by young student members of the centre, who kicked off the proceedings with a song and dance routine to say 'hello'.

Deirdre, who is Rother cabinet member for Social Leisure Culture, said she was "absolutely thrilled" with the opening of the new dance centre, and as an ex-dancer and singer, believes the venue will provide the opportunity for locals to enjoy a leisure pursuit that is particularly close to her heart.

She said: "It's great to see performance back in the town, I'm absolutely thrilled to see something like this, not only for the youth of the town, but for all ages."

She added: "I was a professional dancer and singer, mainly in cabaret and panto, and though I gave it up to have children, it's something that stays with you for the rest of your life."

Director of Dyamond Dance, Chloella Gunn said her fitness, dance and performing arts centre offers a wide range of dance and performance classes that include street dance, kick boxing, salsa, hip hop and pole dancing. In addition, private tuition, personal training and various therapys are available, along with fully equipped dance studios and large rooms for hire.

Chloella said: "We decided to hold an open day to give people the opportunity to look around, to see what we have to offer and students will be putting on more performances throughout the day."

Two Bexhill sisters, who have been training with Chloella at her previous venue located at Bexhill college, said that whilst they both enjoy the classes, they have very different views on where they would like the training to take them.

Sixteen year old Michelle Wadey has been taking street dancing lessons for the past two years.

She said that although she doesn't want to be a professional performer, that doesn't stop her from getting a kick out of the classes.

Michelle said: "I do it for fun and really just enjoy the whole atmosphere."

Whereas rising star ten year old sister Nicola has her sights firmly set on the bright lights.

Nicola said: "I've been having star skool classes with Chloella - singing, acting and drama '“ for just over a year and I hope to be a professional dancer."

Chloella said she is planning to show off the talents of her students in various performances throughout the local area in the not too distant future.
