East Preston bowled over by St George's support

A SPLASH of red was added to the usual whites of bowls to create a day of celebration.

East Preston Bowling Club, in Sea Lane, held a St George's game day, dressed in their finery, to mark the occasion.

Vice captain John Holt said: "If you ask 10 people on the street when St Patrick's day is, they will say March 17, but I bet not many know when St George's Day is.

"I decided to do something to celebrate, and it was exceedingly successful, with 67 members turning out, all dressed in red and white, to play.

"It was great because it was not at all formal, it was very relaxed."

As well as the games, there was also a barbecue in the evening, which, said John, proved very popular.

"Everyone had a lovely time, and quite a few members came up to me after and said 'well done'.

"We hope that it will become part of our regular annual programme."

He added that glorious sunshine on the day helped to boost numbers.
