East Preston pupils taste the joys of the rainbow

The East Preston Infant School, in Lashmar Road, has built a new classroom, filled with sensory toys and equipment for the young pupils to enjoy.

The cash for the new facility was provided by two grants, one of £500 from East Preston Parish Council and a second, also of £500 from the Friends of East Preston Infant School.

The rainbow room, as it is known by staff and pupils, was opened this term and is an exciting place for children to take part in sensory activities.

On top of this, it provides an area for teachers and a weekly play therapist to help work with children to improve not only their communication skills and social skills but their self-confidence too.

Lucy Owens, inclusion co-ordinator at the school, said she was ‘extremely grateful’ to all those who contributed towards the room. She said: “It’s a wonderful space for children to spend time in school and makes a real difference to the support we are able to offer them.”

The room can also be used as a special space to offer physiotherapy and communication sessions for disabled youngsters.

Simon Cross, clerk of East Preston Parish Council, said: “The council firmly believes supporting East Preston children at such an important time in their development will help them become great East Preston residents now and in the future.”
