East Worthing railway death is still a mystery

POLICE are still trying to find out the identity of the man who was struck by a train at East Worthing railway station last week.

Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) have not been able to find out the name of the man who died at around 7am last Wednesday (January 28).

The man's death is not being treated as suspicious.

BTP inspector Gary Ancell said: "We urgently need to determine the identity of this man and trace his family. We believe the man is local to East Worthing. Perhaps he is a colleague, a friend or even a distant relative.

"He is a black man, with short, close cropped hair and has a stocky build. He could be anything from around 20 to around 40 years of age.

He had no identification on him and despite initial fingerprint analysis, we cannot establish who he is.

Insp Ancell added: "This man is someone's son or brother or even father. If you know someone matching this description and have been unable to make contact with them in the past week, we are keen to hear from you, as we need to identify this man as soon as possible."

Anyone with any information is asked to call British Transport Police free on 0800 40 50 40 quoting incident 53 of 28/1/09.
