Eastbourne makes the finals in prestigious tourism awards

Airbourne and Eastbourne's Tourist Information Centre have been announced as finalists of VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.

The news comes less than two months after Airbourne was awarded Gold in the category of Tourism Event of the Year at the Beautiful South Awards, and the Tourist Information Centre was awarded Silver in the Visitor Information Provider of the Year category.

The VisitEngland Awards for Excellence award ceremony is being held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on March 8 during English Tourism Week.

The Tourist Information Centre and Airbourne will be crowned either Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended in the categories of Visitor Information Provider of the Year and Tourism Event of the Year.

The awards, which are organised by the national tourism board, motivate and inspire businesses in the tourism industry to become outstanding leaders within the industry.

Airbourne and Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre being announced as finalists in the 2016 awards means they are one of the top five in their individual categories in England.

Cllr Margaret Bannister, Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Enterprise, said, “To have received this great news today is truly wonderful!

“To be a finalist in one category of the prestigious national awards is something special, but for two of Eastbourne’s visitor services and experiences to have won an Award for Excellence, is just amazing, but certainly echoes the outstanding work which goes into making Eastbourne the excellent tourism destination that it is.”
