Eddie has designs on Erin's dress

IT's not every A-level student who gets commissioned to design a dress for a top celebrity.

And even fewer get the commission when that star is a man!

But that's what happened to Erin Lewis following the opening of Bexhill College's new campus by TV funnyman and celebrated part-time transvestite Eddie Izzard last month.

According to the college, the comedian, actor and writer was very much taken by Erin's designs which were on display as part of the opening event.

When college chiefs invited Eddie to choose some student artwork as a memento of the event, he selected a photograph by student Lily Evans and a painting by Hayley Small.

But he also asked to have a dress designed by Erin.

Now the 18-year-old student, who gained A-grades in both Sculpture and Textiles A-levels at Bexhill College in the summer, will liaise with Eddie throughout the design and creation process.

Erin, who lives in Bexhill, has now started an arts foundation course in Hastings before heading for fashion and design at university.

Her textiles teacher at Bexhill College, Madeleine Day, said: "I think Eddie's attitude is that if women can wear trousers, then men should be able to wear skirts.

"In any event, it's a wonderful opportunity for Erin."
