Eight fire crews work through the night battling '˜serious' blaze in Heathfield

Eight fire engines were called to tackle a serious fire in Heathfield last night, East Sussex Fire and Rescue has confirmed.

At 23.19pm last night (June 18), firefighters were called to reports of a fire on Station Road following numerous 999 calls from the public.

Fire engines attended the scene at approximately midnight to extinguish the blaze at a derelict mill.

At the height of the incident, crews from eight fire engines were tackling the fire with jets and hydrants.

Firefighters worked through the night to scale back the operation, and as of 4.30am this morning two fire engines remained at the scene working as relief crews.

Nobody was hurt in the blaze, and a fire investigation began at 9am this morning.

SEACamb and Sussex Police also attended the scene.
