A PENSIONER suffered a leg injury when she was struck by a car which failed to stop in Battle town centre.

The 73-year-old was crossing the road with another woman at Lower Lake, near The Chequers pub, just after noon last Friday (September 19) when the vehicle hit her.

The pensioner, who is from Eastbourne, was taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings by ambulance.

She suffered bruising and swelling to her leg, but was not seriously injured in the incident.

Police are appealing for witnesses in a bid to trace the driver of the offending vehicle.

PC Richard Trundle from the road policing department said: “The car is described as small and black and drove off in the direction of Battle town centre.

“Luckily the victim was not seriously hurt but we do need to speak to the driver of this car.

“Anyone who saw what happened or has any more information about the collision is asked to contact police on 101 or email [email protected] quoting serial 605 of 20/9.”
