ELDERLY MAN VICTIM OF ROBBERY

Wealden detectives have linked a fifth robbery to a series of rural offences that have taken place over the last two months.

The most recent case took place in Upper Horsebridge, on the main A271 road near to the Cuckoo Trail, at 7.30pm on Wednesday, December 27.

The previous offences were carried out during November on the 14th, 21st, 24th and 27th, at locations near to the A22.

On the most recent occasion the offenders used the same tactics, of forcing entry to the home of an elderly person and stealing cash and jewellery. The location of this offence is on a very busy main road, and it is highly likely that someone would have either seen either four or five offenders entering or leaving the house, or their vehicle parked on the main road or verge.

Chief Inspector Neil Honnor, Wealden District Commander said: 'This is an appalling attack on an elderly man. I am convinced that somebody will have witnessed something, have information to give or recognise the man who is subject of the e-fit. Thankfully these are very rare cases, but it is essential that we catch this group as soon as possible.'

Detectives are urging anyone with any information or who was on the A271 near Upper Horsebridge around 7.30 pm on Wednesday to make contact with them at Uckfield CID on 0845 60 70 999, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting ref 1228 of 27 December 2006.
