Elderly woman and teenager dies in car smash

AN ELDERLY Bexhill woman died in a two-car smash which killed a teenage girl and seriously injured three others.

Audrey Johnson, 90, of West Parade, died instantly when the silver Mazda 323 she was travelling in collided with a gold-coloured Ford Fiesta on Queensway in Hastings.

The force of the high-speed crash smashed the small Fiesta in two killing the driver, 18-year-old student Emma Anderson from Robertsbridge, on impact.

The 51-year-old driver of the Mazda, a voluntary ambulance driver from Bexhill, was trapped inside the wreckage for over an hour with serious injuries

Paramedics treated him as 13 firefighters used high-tech cutting equipment to free him.

He was rushed to hospital and was later transferred to a specialist hospital in East Grinstead where his position yesterday was stable.

Two women passengers in the back of the vehicle, aged 59 and 88 and also from Bexhill, suffered severe injuries and were rushed to the Conquest but were released early this week.
