ELDERLY WOMAN DIES AFTER CRASH

An elderly woman has died following a road crash at Hailsham at the end of last month.

Police this afternoon said Elizabeth Drake, aged 86, of The Firs, Herstmonceux, had died in the Eastbourne District General Hospital.

The accident happened at about 4.35pm on Wednesday, November 29, on the A271, Hawkswood Road, Hailsham near the Hawkswood Service Station.

A Peugeot 106 being driven by a 47-year-old local man, was in collision with a Ford Transit being driven by a 50-year-old man from Crawley.

The driver of the Peugeot was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital with minorinjuries, the Transit driver was unhurt.

Elizabeth Drake was a passenger in the Peugeot. She was taken to hospital with minor injuries but has subsequently died.

A police spokesman said: 'It is now being treated as a fatal crash and witnesses are asked to contact the Road Policing Department Investigation Support team at Lewes on 0845 60 70 999, quote Operation Digby.'
