Election success for Conservatives

BEXHILL Conservatives celebrated a double victory in last Thursday's by elections.

Michael Ensor was elected county councillor for King Offa division.

He polled 2,825 votes. Liberal Democrat John Kemp received 1,191 votes and Labour candidate Timothy Macpherson 518.

Voter turn-out was 25.16 per cent.

In the Rother ward of Collington, Gillian Wheeler was elected after polling 893 votes for the Conservatives. Christine Purdy was given 216 votes and Labour's Nick Coughlan 78.

Turn out was 31.77 per cent of the electorate.

Cllr Wheeler said: "May I through your newspaper give a big thank you to the electors of Collington for supporting me with their vote last Thursday in the Rother by-election.

"I promise to represent all the residents of Collington to the best of my ability over the coming years and will always be open to receiving your local concerns, ideas or comments."
