ELECTION: Tory majority slashed in Fontwell

CONSERVATIVE Derek Whittington saw his majority slashed as he held onto his county council seat for Fontwell, which includes Walberton, Slindon, Barnham and Madehurst.

Mr Whittington, defending a 1,100 vote majority from the 2009 election, was just 269 ahead of UKIP’s Graham Draper when the result was declared today (Friday, May 3).

The three other candidates were well behind, with the only BNP candidate in the Gazette area attacting just 57 votes.

Mr Whittington returns to County Hall with 1,176 votes, ahead of Mr Draper, with 907, Lib-Dem Stepher White, with 338, Labour’s John Mayes, with 177 and the BNP’s John Robinson, with 57.
