ELECTION: UKIP take Middleton
UK Independence Party supporters were jubilant after gaining the Middleton seat, which includes Climping, Ford and Yapton.
Joan Phillips overturned a Conservative majority of more than 700 at the last election, when she took second place, to win by 82 votes this time.
Hilary Flynn, the Conservatives’ agent for the Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Parliamentary constituency, polled 1,099 votes.
Labour’s Gilbert Cockburn trailed in third place, with 268 votes, and the Lib-Dems’ David Meagher had a paltry 121 votes.
