Bomb disposal experts have been sent to schools around the country to deal with the chemical 2,4-DNPH in their science departments, after a government warning it may explode if stored incorrectly.

Chichester High School executive principal Yasmin Maskatiya confirmed the chemical was found in both the Stockbridge and Kingsham buildings of the school.

In a statement on the school website, she said she had to ‘put safety first’ and act on the advice of emergency services.

It read: “The police and fire services have advised me that it is a priority that this chemical is disposed of.

“To do this safely we have made the decision that the school needs to be closed whilst the emergency services deal with the substances.
