A259 incident: Emergency services rush to multi-vehicle collision in West Sussex

The emergency services rushed to a collision involving multiple vehicles on the A259 in West Sussex.

Fire crews joined police officers and paramedics at the scene in Rustington around 3pm on Wednesday (October 23).

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We responded to a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the A259 westbound, between East Preston roundabout and Rustington roundabout.

"Joint Fire Control sent fire engines from East Preston and Worthing to the scene, as well as a heavy rescue tender from Worthing.

"Upon arrival fire crews assisted Sussex Police in making the scene safe, before leaving the scene at around 4pm.

"The incident was left in the care of Sussex Police.”

The fire service said a ‘full lane closure’ remained in place, as of 4.10pm – but was clear by Wednesday evening.

Long tailbacks were reported whilst the incident was ongoing, with people reporting that they were stuck in traffic for more than an hour.

An AA Traffic News report read: “Road closed and delays due to multi-vehicle crash on A259 Westbound from B2140 Station Road to B2187 Mill Lane. Fire services are on scene.”

South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed two patients had ‘minor injuries’ and were ‘discharged at the scene’.

A Sussex Police spokesperson added: “This was a three car RTC on the A259 near Rustington Retail Park. Minor injury. Road clear by 5pm.”
