The fire service has issued a statement after video footage emerged of a fire in Crawley.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said it responded to a fire – at Overdene Drive in Gossops Green – at 9.15pm on Wednesday (October 16).

"Joint Fire Control sent one fire engine from Crawley to the scene,” a spokesperson added.

"Upon arrival firefighters used one jet to extinguish a fire involving waste.

"The fire crew left the scene at 9.45pm."

Video footage of the incident was shared by Spotted Crawley on Facebook. It was described as a ‘big fire’ on the wasteland with a large amount of smoke visible.
