Emergency services called to rescue ‘distressed’ man stuck in River Adur mud at 4am

Emergency services were called to rescue a man who was stuck in the mud of the River Adur in the early hours of this morning.

Shoreham Lifeboat said their crew had an ‘early wake up call’ when their pagers went off at 3.50am today.

A spokesman added: “Our inshore lifeboat launched to assist other emergency services with the rescue of a distressed man stuck in the mud in the River Adur at low tide by the railway bridge.”

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “We were called to assist the police with an incident at 3:55am last night (2 January) involving two adults stuck in the mud in the River Adur.

“Three fire engines attended the scene.”

Sussex Police has been approached for comment.
