Encouraging new comedy

Matt’s Comedy Club in Worthing has always taken great delight in encouraging new comedic talent – and that’s precisely the aim behind the club’s first Open Mic night on August 25.

Russ Bravo, who runs the club, said: “Worthing’s only regular comedy club with a family-friendly ethos was responsible for giving local singer-songwriter Ben Salter his first crack at comedy last year, and since then Ben has been building a growing reputation on the Sussex comedy circuit, and makes his Edinburgh Festival debut this summer in a show with Brighton stand-up Sam Savage.”

Ben will be delivering a set at the Open Mic, along with MC Russ, and a number of acts old and new have already booked a slot on what promises to be a varied and entertaining night.

“Fancy a go? It could be traditional stand-up, comedy with music or mime, sketch comedy, conjuring, storytelling or just about anything provided it’s suitable for a family audience and is designed to make an audience laugh.”

Contact Russ Bravo on [email protected] to request a slot. Slots can be requested only ahead of the night, so a running order can be planned.

Tickets for the August 25 show at The Dome Function Suite, Marine Parade, Worthing are £5 and are available from the club’s usual ticket outlets: Parklife in Bath Place; Music Mania in West Buildings; Green Cuisine in Rowlands Road and Eclipse Cafe Bar in Goring Road or call 01903 218026 or 077200 40456 to book yours.
