End of Workability

An agency set up 16 years ago to support adults with mental health needs is set to close.

Impact Inititiatives' Workability East Sussex opened its doors in 1992 and when Ellie Bond, team leader, started in 1996 she was the only paid worker working alongside volunteers.

Workability built up over the years, and at one time the staff team reached 15.

Due to constant changes in funding, the client group has included people with physical and learning disabilities, but the main focus has been supporting people with mental health needs.

Over the last 18 years, Workability improved the life of the community and touched the lives of thousands of people in Eastbourne, Uckfield & Rural areas, Hastings and Rother and the surrounding areas.

The team has successfully supported clients to achieve individual vocational goals, increase their confidence and self-esteem, and break down the barriers they have had to face.

The last months have been "very difficult" for all staff at Workability East Sussex and the trustees and the Senior Management Team at Impact Initiatives would like to thank everyone for their "good work and dedication" over the last 17 years.

Ellie commented: "I've had some amazing workers that had skills that will be hard to replace, they have helped so many people improve their lives.

"It has been devastating to lose so many high-calibre workers. On a personal level after 13 years committed to Workability, it's almost like a bereavement as I am now in the same position as in 1996, so it has gone full circle'¦What I can take away with me though is the knowledge that over the past 13 years innumerable numbers of clients have had the benefit of our invaluable support. "What I find really great is when you go round town and you see clients and they're working."

Ellie would like to thank all local organisations and business who have supported Workability over the years.

"And of course, most importantly, all the fantastic clients I have met over the past 13 years. I wish them all the very best for the future and congratulate them all on their achievements."
