Engines revved and ready for Goodwood Revival

It’s that time of the year – the clocks will be turned back at the Goodwood Revival which promises to be a memorable three days.

This year sees the 18th running of the Goodwood Revival, with at least 95 per cent of last year’s visitors dressing in period clothing for a real celebration of vintage motor racing.

Running from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13, as well as a full schedule of vintage racing, air displays featuring classic Second World War planes are set to thrill the thousands of visitors.

As ever, tributes, celebrations and new features are an important part of the weekend which centre around vintage motor cars taking to Goodwood’s historic motor circuit.

More than 125 actors will be at Goodwood to enhance the authentic period theme with characters including nurses, Dad’s Army, wide-boy spivs, aircraft pilots, mods and rockers and road menders.

The Best Dressed contest will see elegant and smartly-dressed ladies and dashing gents standing a chance of taking home some terrific prizes. A team of fashion gurus will be looking out for the most immaculately-groomed visitors, and there’ll be a special category for Miniskirts and Minidresses too!

The 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain will be marked with a poignant flypast and ground-based tribute on Sunday commemorating those stationed at RAF Westhampnett – as Goodwood Motor Circuit was known then – who lost their lives during the hostilities.

For the first time the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation will consist exclusively of aircraft from the Battle of Britain, with more than half of the world’s airworthy Spitfires and Hurricanes joined by the only flying Bristol Blenheim in existence.

The Earl of March said: “The Revival really is a dream come true, something I’d always planned to do right from the time we started the Festival of Speed back in 1993. Even now I have to pinch myself when the cars come out to race, and every year I am as thrilled as ever to see the circuit back in action.

“This year will be special with a wonderful collection of cars and motorcycles confirmed, so all we need is some fine weather and some great racing. We have sold out earlier than ever before which is encouraging because our visitors play such a big part in the whole event, a vital element of the period drama that is the Revival.”
