Enthusiastic visitors queue up for Pagham gardens

Queues formed outside the locations of Pagham's first open gardens day.

The enthusiastic visitors were eager to explore the mass of colours and flowers on view around the parish as soon as they could. They were not disappointed.

The sun shone, the birds sang and the gardens were full of interest and life.

Some 200 people, including a couple holidaymaking from Holland, took the chance to visit the 14 locations.

But the downside to the event had been the theft of an advertising banner '“ worth more than 100 '“ which had been stolen the previous weekend from the roadside close to the Royal Oak pub in Lagness.

The open gardens day was held by the Friends of St Thomas a'Becket Church as part of its Save Our Stained glass appeal.

The proceeds, when they are finalised, will be added to the takings from a concert being staged by the Friends tonight.

This will take place at St Thomas a'Becket at 7.30pm and feature the Chichester Voices.

Mark Wardell, the organist at Chichester Cathedral, will be debuting the new four manual organ.

Tickets for the concert can be bought on the door priced 10 each.
