Despite the difficult weather during spring and summer there were more entries than last year at Newhaven Gardening Society’s annual show.
There were also several first time exhibitors and new members were among the prize winners at Meeching Hall in Fort Road on Saturday August 10.
The hall was filled with an impressive display of colourful flowers, vegetables, home cooking and crafts.
A spokesperson for the group said: “The sun shone for us on Saturday and brought out loads of people, who were able to wander amongst the colourful display, and then enjoy a cup of tea and piece of home made cake.
“There was a huge raffle with lots of prizes, many kindly donated by local businesses and attractions, for which we are extremely grateful for their help.”
The next meeting of Newhaven Gardening Society will be on Thursday September 19 at the Age Concern Day Club, West Quay, Newhaven at 7.30pm.
The speaker will be David Lang with a talk and slide show called Tasmanian Treasures.
