The Environment Agency ‘has no plans’ to move from its location at Buckle Car Park, despite Lewes District Council earmarking the site for a new housing development.
Maria Caulfield MP has been shown correspondence between a Seaford resident and the Environment Agency that states no agreement has been made by the Agency to move from the site and that they are under no obligation to do so.
Although the emails do state the Agency might be willing to move, it has a long lease on the site and discussions are still at a very early stage.
A statement from Maria Caulfield’s office said: “Maria Caulfield MP has learned from email correspondence that the Environment Agency has no plans to move from its location at the Buckle site in Seaford and so far only preliminary talks have taken place.
“This information came to light from email correspondence between a Seaford resident and the Environment Agency, which has been shown to Maria Caulfield. The correspondence clearly states no agreement has been made by the Agency to move from the site, they are under no obligation so to do and they have a long lease.”
Maria said: “To my mind, this casts a great deal of doubt on the viability of the Buckle Car Park site if one of the occupiers is not obliged or particularly interested in moving. I am following this situation closely and continuing to press the Council about its plans for this location.”
