Access to Birling Gap beach to shut

Work to redeck the top section of the staircase should be completed in time for the steps to re-open on Friday April 30, but Wealden District Council says this is subject to change.

A spokesperson said, “During the time of closure there will be no access down to the beach from the car park, or up to the car park from the beach.

“Please bear this in mind if you plan to walk from other sections of the coastline, such as Cow Gap, Holywell, Falling Sands and Cuckmere Haven, as you will not be able to access the safety of the cliff top during periods of high tide.

“Check tide times before you set off to avoid being cut off from the tide.”
